Apprenticeships or advanced apprenticeships are a practical way to achieve qualifications in the career of your choice. At the end of the course you will achieve:
- Skills, knowledge and practical experience
- A National Vocational Qualification (NVQ), Level 2 for an apprenticeship, or Level 3 for an advanced apprenticeship
- Key Skills qualifications, including problem-solving, working in teams, communication and using new technology
- A technical certificate such as a BTEC National Diploma or a City & Guilds Progression Award (included in most Apprenticeships)
- Additional qualifications or requirements that are important for your chosen occupation

What are NVQ's?
National Vocational
Qualifications (NVQs) are achieved through assessment and training in
the workplace. NVQs are nationally recognised qualifications that are
accepted by employers and academic institutes throughout the Country.
People who complete an Apprenticeship will gain an NVQ Level 2.
Advanced apprenticeships lead to an NVQ at both Level 2 & 3.
There are five levels of NVQ:
- Level 1 = 5 GCSEs at grades D-G
- Level 2 = 5 GCSEs at grades A-C
- Level 3 = 2 A levels/1 vocational A level
- Level 4/5 = HNC, HND and degree level
The apprenticeship
and NVQ level you choose will depend upon your age and qualifications.
There are also a number of pre-apprenticeship programmes you may want
to consider depending on your situation.
