Below are some frequently asked questions and answers which may help you with your decision.

I did not get very good GCSE results. Will this stop me from doing an apprenticeship?

No. If you did not achieve the results needed for a full apprenticeship, the College has a programme where you can brush up on your skills, including English and Maths, before progressing to a formal apprenticeship.

I sometimes lack confidence and I think I will need extra help to achieve my qualification. What support is available?

Learning support tutors are employed to give you one to one assistance, they will also assist you with other problems which might affect your training.

I find Maths difficult. Will this stop me doing an apprenticeship?

No. The College has specialist tutors who will give you one to one support with the parts of your course which involve working with numbers. There are also support tutors to help you with English.

Will I get paid when I come to College?

If you are aged 16 - 18 and on a full time course with Prospects you will be entitled to a training allowance of £40 a week. This allowance is being replaced by an Educational Maintenance Allowance in April 2006. Ask your training advisor for more information on this.

If you obtain a full apprenticeship your employer will pay you the minimum weekly wage for apprenticeships, currently £80 per week, although this will vary from employer to employer.

Will I get paid travel expenses whilst I am on a course?

If you are aged 16 - 18 and not employed you will be entitled to assistance with travel. Please ask your Training Advisor about this.

Will the College help me to find a job or an apprenticeship?

The College employs apprenticeship advisors and they will make contact with you during your course and agree with you what type of apprenticeship would best suit you.  We have good links with local employers and will help you to find employment.

If you are over 18 and unemployed attending the College, Job Search facilities are also available to help you find work.

What if I have a problem which is affecting my course?

The Student Services Team are here to help you. You can ask for a confidential meeting with them at any time and they will try to assist you and resolve your problem. The College has good links with specialist agencies and if we cannot help you we will be able to refer you to someone who can.
