What - Level 2 Maintenance Engineering Apprenticeship
Where - Prospects College, Basildon
Who - Able and motivated 16-24 year olds, employed in the maintenance engineering industry and capable of completing an apprenticeship at Level 2.
When - 2 years ( Apprentices attend on a day realease basis). For students intending to achieve the advanced apprenticeship, the first year is spent full time in college and you then learn on the job at your place of work with occasional visits to college.
WHAT DO I NEED?
Ideally, you should have three GCSEs at Grade C or above including English and Maths. Literacy and numeracy skills can however be assessed at interview stage for applicants without these GCSEs. You must also be employed in the Maintenance Engineering industry when you start an apprenticeship. If we introduce you to an employer, they may have additional criteria. if you are not currently employed in the industry, we will be able to find you an employer whilst you are working towards some elements of your apprenticeship.
WHAT QUALIFICATION WILL I RECEIVE?
Level 2 Engineering Apprenticeship comprising of:
NVQ Level 2 in Performing Engineering Operations, the relevant Level 2 technical certificate and Key Skills in English, Maths and ICT.
WHAT WILL I STUDY?
You will combine on the job training with your employer with day release at college to develop further your knowledge of the theory aspects related to maintenance tasks within your job including: bench fitting, mechanical maintenance and electrical maintenance.
HOW WILL I BE ASSESSED?
Each qualification within the apprenticeship framework is assessed through ongoing demonstration of your practical skills and theory assessments. Some units of the qualification require online external examinations. The NVQ element is assessed in the workplace and will require the production of a portfolio of work-based evidence. Key Skills courses are assessed by a final written examination.
FURTHER TRAINING OPPORTUNITIES?
After successful completion of the course you can progress to a higher level apprenticeship at Level 3 known as an Advanced Apprenticeship.
HOW MUCH WILL IT COST?
For 16-18 year old students, apprenticeships are fully funded. For 19+ students, an employer contribution is required.
