What - Level 2 Engineering Apprenticeship
Where - Prospects College, Southend Airport, Southend
Who - Able and motivated 16-24 year olds, employed or wanting to be employed in the aeronautical engineering industry and capable of completing an apprenticeship at Level 2.
When - Students completing the apprenticeship (Level 2) programme attend on a day release basis over a period of 24 months. For students intending to achieve the advanced apprenticeship (Level 3) the first year is spent full-time in college, you then learn on-the-job at your place of work with occasional visits to college.
WHAT DO I NEED?
Ideally, you should have three GCSEs at Grade C including English and Maths. Literacy and numeracy skills can however be assessed at interview stage for applicants without GCSEs. You must be employed in the industry of your chosen subject when you start an apprenticeship. If we introduce you to an employer, they may have additional criteria.
WHAT QUALIFICATION WILL I RECEIVE?
Level 2 engineering apprenticeship comprising of:
NVQ Level 2 in Performing Engineering Operations, the relevant Level 2 technical certificate and Functional Skills qualifications in English, Maths and ICT.
WHAT WILL I STUDY?
Your initial training will focus on developing a variety of engineering hand skills to equip you with the necessary skills to perform aircraft maintenance tasks including fittings, fixings such as riveting and aero fixings and sheet metal fabrication.
HOW WILL I BE ASSESSED?
Each qualification within the apprenticeship framework is assessed through ongoing demonstration of your practical skills and theory assessments. Some units of the qualification require online external examinations. The NVQ element is assessed in the workplace and will require the production of a portfolio of work based evidence. Functional Skills courses are assessed by a final written examination.
FURTHER TRAINING OPPORTUNITIES?
After successful completion of the course you can progress to a higher level apprenticeship at Level 3 known as an Advanced Apprenticeship.
HOW MUCH WILL IT COST?
For 16-18 year old students, apprenticeships are fully funded.
For 19+ students, an employer contribution is required.
