PORTABLE ELECTRICAL APPLIANCE TESTING

 

AIMS:

To enable delegates to acquire the skills and knowledge necessary to be able to instigate and implement a testing programme for portable electrical appliances.  Practical sessions will help delegates to gain experience in testing appliances and completing the necessary documentation.  The Course is not restricted to qualified electricians but is suitable for anyone involved with a Company’s safety programme.

 

Delegates should have a basic knowledge of /interest in Electrical Safety.

 

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS:

Please bring with you your Portable Appliance Tester as this will enable the training to take place on the equipment you will be using.  However, if you do not have a tester, the Centre will provide one for the practical sessions.

 

COURSE CONTENT:

  • Dangers of electricity
  • The Law and testing of portable appliances including the responsibility for the safety of themselves and others.
  • Insulation and testing
  • Types of appliances and their classification
  • Visual inspection – test precautions and the reasons for faults
  • Essential tests
  • Optional tests – theory only
  • Labelling
  • Setting up a testing programme and keeping records

ASSESSMENT:  

Practical sessions of PAT Testing including completion of the appropriate paperwork to simulate the PAT Testing environment.

Prospects Group Certificate (Subject to completion of Practical PAT Testing sessions including appropriate paperwork)
