CONSTRUCTION TRADES FOUNDATION LEVEL 1 IN CARPENTRY & JOINERY

 

What - Construction Diploma Level 1

 

Where - Prospects College, Southend or Basildon

 

Who - This course is for 16-18 year olds looking for an introduction to the construction industry.

 

When - One year full time, (3 - 5  days per week)

 

WHAT DO I NEED?

Ideally, you should have two GCSEs at Grade D (of which one GCSE must be in English or Maths). Literacy and numeracy skills can however be assessed at interview stage for applicants without GCSEs.

 

WHAT QUALIFICATION WILL I RECEIVE?

Construction Diploma Level 1.

 

WHAT WILL I STUDY?

You will combine practical learning in our workshops with theory sessions. Subjects you will study will include: Construction health & safety, using and maintaining carpentry hand tools, handling and storing materials.

 

HOW WILL I BE ASSESSED?

Each unit of the qualification is assessed through ongoing demonstration of your practical skills and theory assessments. Some units of the qualification require an online external assessment.

 

WHAT SUPPORT IS AVAILABLE WHILE I AM ON THE COURSE?

You will be allocated a personal tutor to help you throughout the course. The college also offers learning support and guidance. This course is delivered in partnership with South East Essex College (SEEC); students enrolled on this course will have the opportunity to access additional facilities at the SEEC main campus based in central Southend.

 

WHAT CAN I DO AFTERWARDS?

After successful completion of the course you can progress to a higher level carpentry course at Prospects College or join an apprenticeship scheme when you have gained employment in the industry. You may also wish to consider alternative construction courses delivered by SEEC.

 

HOW MUCH WILL IT COST?

Most students will not have to pay fees. You will however need to buy your own protective footwear and pay a contribution towards material costs.
