COMPEX REFRESHER

AIM:

Dangerous substances can put people’s safety at risk from fire and explosion.  Under DSER (Dangerous Substances and Explosive Atmospheres Regulations 2002) employers and the self-employed have a duty to protect people from risk of fire, explosion and similar events in the workplace.  This includes members of the public who may come into contact with work activity.

Dangerous Substances?  Dangerous substances are any substances used or present at work that could, if not properly controlled, cause harm to people as a result of a fire or explosion.  These includes such things as solvents, paints, varnishes, flammable gases, such as liquid petroleum gas (LPG), dusts from machining and sanding operations and dusts from foodstuffs.

CompEx stands for competence in explosive atmospheres.  It is the national training and assessment scheme for electrical and instrument craft personnel who work in potentially explosive atmospheres, such as:

·         On and off-shore oil and gas installations

·         Petrochemical plants

·         Distilleries

·         Petrol forecourt environments

·         Mills and other dust generating environments

CompEx is a national joint training initiative developed and implemented by the Engineering Equipment and Material Users Association (EEMUA) and JTL and is supported by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE).

JTL has been appointed to develop, operate and manage the training provision across the UK and it has licensed and accredited a number of centres to deliver the training an assessment.

The CompEx Refresher Course is a 2 day course which is run at our well equipped centre in Basildon.  The course can also be run on your site subject to certain resources being available.  The maximum amount of delegates is 6.
