CompEx Foundation
AIM:
Legislation underlines the need for practitioners in potentially explosive environments or hazardous areas to be competent.
With this in mind representative bodies from across the industry have produced a nationally and internationally recognised training and assessment scheme for instrument and electrical personnel called Compex, (Competence in Explosive Atmospheres) that issues successful delegates with a certificate of competence which is recognised and respected within the industry today.
In view of the success of Compex for instrument and electrical personnel and at the request of many companies, it has been decided that the scheme should be extended to give people who are not of either an instrument or electrical background the opportunity to attend a foundation course that would issue a certificate of competence to successful delegates.
People of all disciplines and backgrounds that work in potentially explosive environments such as oil and gas production facilities or petrochemical installations and combustible dust environments, such as the sugar industries, distilleries and pharmaceutical industries, etc.
COURSE CONTENT:
The course will cover many areas relating to safe working practices in potentially explosive environments and will include, but not be limited to, legislation, including the atex directives, standards and codes of practice, area classification of the plant, permit to work, potential sources of ignition, ignition properties of substances and the selection and use of approved equipment for use in such areas, including installation and maintenance issues.
