CONSTRUCTION


LEVEL 1 CONSTRUCTION

 

INTRODUCTION TO COURSE

This Level 1 course has been designed to allow students the opportunity to develop and practise some basic construction skills in wood, brick, painting and tiling. In addition, students will complete mandatory units in communication and number.

 

WHAT QUALIFICATION WILL I RECEIVE:

NOCN Certificate/Diploma in Skills Towards Enabling Progression.

 

WHICH CAMPUS:

Southend, Basildon and Brentwood.

 

ATTENDANCE:

You can study this course in a variety of formats:

One day a week in Year 9 (would achieve the Certificate)

One day a week in Year 9 and One day a week in Year 10 (would achieve the Diploma)

Two days a week in Year 9

 

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS:

Students should have an interest in the construction industry and commitment and willingness to learn.

 

COURSE ASSESSMENT:

This qualification is assessed by the tutors throughout the course. Assessments are designed to meet the criteria stated by the awarding body.

 

COURSE PROGRESSION:

Students can progress to either the City and Guilds 6218 - Level 1: An Award in

Basic Construction Skills or Level 2: BTEC First Diploma in Construction. (Would achieve the Diploma)

 

LEVEL 1 VOCATIONAL LEARNING CONSTRUCTION

 

INTRODUCTION TO COURSE

This Level 1 course has been designed to allow students the opportunity to develop and practise some basic construction skills in wood, brick, painting and tiling.

 

WHAT QUALIFICATION WILL I RECEIVE:

City and Guilds Certificate/Diploma in Basic Construction Skills (C&G 6218).

 

WHICH CAMPUS:

Southend, Basildon and Brentwood.

 

ATTENDANCE:

You can study this course in a variety of formats:

One day a week in Year 10 and one day a week in Year 11

Two days a week in Year 10

 

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS:

Students should have an interest in the construction industry and commitment and willingness to learn.

This qualification is assessed by the tutors throughout the course. Assessments are designed to meet the criteria stated by the awarding body.

 

COURSE PROGRESSION:

Year 10 students can progress onto the BTEC First Diploma in Construction and Year 11 students can progress onto a Post 16 provision – Further Education Level 1, Level 2 or an Apprenticeship.

 

LEVEL 2 APPLIED LEARNING IN CONSTRUCTION

 

INTRODUCTION TO COURSE

This Level 2 course has been designed to allow students who are interested in the construction industry to understand the various roles within it. This course is largely theoretical but some practical units have been selected.

 

WHAT QUALIFICATION WILL I RECEIVE:

Edexcel BTEC First Diploma in Construction.

 

WHICH CAMPUS:

Southend and Basildon.

 

ATTENDANCE:

You can study this course in a variety of formats: One day a week in Year 10 and one day a week in Year 11 Two days a week in Year 11

 

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS:

Students should have an interest in the construction industry and a commitment and willingness to learn. Students should either have completed the City & Guilds 6218 or have the potential to achieve 4 GCSE at A* - C including English and Maths.

 

COURSE ASSESSMENT:

This qualification is assessed by the tutors throughout the course. Assessments are designed to meet the criteria stated by the awarding body.

 

COURSE PROGRESSION:

Students can progress onto the Level 3 BTEC Extended Diploma in Construction or an Apprenticeship.


 ENGINEERING


LEVEL 1 ENGINEERING

 

INTRODUCTION TO COURSE

This Level 1 course has been designed to allow students the opportunity to learn, develop and practise the skills required for employment in the engineering sector.

 

WHAT QUALIFICATION WILL I RECEIVE:

EAL Certificate in Engineering and Technology.

 

WHICH CAMPUS:

Southend and Basildon.

 

ATTENDANCE:

Two days a week in Year 10.

 

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS:

Students should have an interest in engineering, coupled with commitment and willingness to learn.

 

COURSE ASSESSMENT:

This qualification is assessed throughout the course through individual assignments and some on-line examinations set in accordance with the criteria stated by the awarding body.

 

COURSE PROGRESSION:

Students can progress onto the Diploma in Engineering and Technology in Year 11 (Level 2).


LEVEL 2 ENGINEERING

 

INTRODUCTION TO COURSE

Students can study the Diploma in Engineering and Technology in Year 11.

 

WHAT QUALIFICATION WILL I RECEIVE:

EAL Diploma in Engineering and Technology (Level 2).

 

WHICH CAMPUS:

Southend and Basildon.

 

ATTENDANCE:

Two days a week in Year 11.

 

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS:

Students should have achieved the Certificate in Engineering and Technology or have the potential to achieve 4 GCSE’s at grades A* - C.

 

COURSE ASSESSMENT:

This qualification is assessed throughout the course through individual assignments and some on-line examinations set in accordance with the criteria stated by the awarding body.

 

COURSE PROGRESSION:

Students can progress onto Level 2 Post-16 courses including Apprenticeships
