What are NVQs?

National Vocational Qualifications (NVQs) are achieved through assessment and training in the workplace. NVQs are nationally recognised qualifications that are accepted by employers and academic institutes throughout the Country. People who complete an Apprenticeship will gain an NVQ Level 2. Advanced Apprenticeships lead to an NVQ at both Level 2 & 3.

There are five levels of NVQ:

  • Level 1* = 5 GCSEs at grades D-G
  • Level 2 = 5 GCSEs at grades A-C
  • Level 3 = 2 A levels/1 vocational A level
  • Level 4/5 = HNC, HND and degree level

The Apprenticeship and NVQ level you choose will depend upon your age and qualifications. There are also a number of pre-apprenticeship programmes you may want to consider depending on your situation.
