Hussein’s Story

After making the decision to leave school having obtained a number of GCSE’s, Hussein decided not to take the traditional route into higher or further education, as he wanted to follow a more practical route into Engineering.

He gained employment at a local Fabrication company and given the opportunity to undertake an apprenticeship in Fabrication and Welding.   After 6 months he has successfully completed six modules of the Performing Engineering Operations up to NVQ Level 2 and he is working towards his Technical Certificate NVQ Level 2 with an aim to complete within 12 months.

“I wasn’t sure what I wanted to do but did know that I wanted to learn a trade and gain hands on experience.  Being an apprentice gives me the best of both worlds and I get to earn a wage.”

Oliver’s Story

Oliver is a Mechanical Engineering Apprentice with a large multi National Company with a facility in Southend on Sea, manufacturing injection moulded plastic components for the automotive industry. He attended a local comprehensive school and gained GCSE A-C grade passes in Maths English and Science. He’s currently in the first year of his advanced Apprenticeship at Prospects College Engineering Centre and attends 4 days a week.

He has successfully completed eight modules of the Performing Engineering Operations up to NVQ Level 2.  Oliver is now going to spend most of his time in the workplace with his employer where he will complete assignments towards his NVQ level 3.
